README

--- Important information concerning Men In War version 1.5.
--- Please read this file carefully if you have played any previous version,
--- and don't want to read the documentation.
--- For new players of Men In War, I suggest you read the MW.DOC -very-
--- carefully; it contains much important information about the game, what
--- everything does (though, you must learn by playing too) and everything
--- else you might not even wanted to know ;)

--- If you are new player, you might want to read this file too; it contains
--- information about new features (you don't have to read it unless you've
--- played previous versions), sound devices, operating systems and such.

New features:
  - Men In War required even less memory than before.
Now, the Shareware version required 534 kilobytes (approx 548000 bytes)
of conventional memory, and registered version even less (if you want to
know, that is because different memory-optimization methods used in
    shareware- and registered version).
Though, Men In War required approximately 512 kilobytes of XMS memory
(with GUS or no sounds), and additional 640 kilobytes of EMS memory
if you are using Sound Blaster (or compatible) sound device.
  - Sound Blaster support fixed; the old SB-support was rather slow and
hard to use (for example, you coudn't use Windows, OS/2 or such with
MIW with it), so we totally rewrote the player routines. Now the player
is more flexible with operating systems, and is faster than the old one
    too.
  - Bugs fixed. Since version 1.0 loads of bugs have been fixed. It
would be rather boring job to list them (and you to read, as well),
    so I skip that section.
  - ZIMM has been changed to PLASMA SHOTGUN.
Unless you register Men In War, you will not be able to notice any
difference in this. The ZIMM was complained to be rather useless as
weapon (while rockets did the same job and seeked too), so we replaced
it with a weapon we hope you find more useful.
  - Changes in MISSION-gamemode; while carrying flag, you can no longer
shoot. But, you may drop the flag anywhere you want, even on your
platform (and you will gain money!). Though, you gain no money if you
keep the flag on multi-player platform. Also, as you drop the flag anyone
can pick it up and take it some elsewhere. The flag is dropped by
pressing the CHANGE-button while carrying it.
  - Strafing; Strafing was asked, so we added it in this version of game.
  - New THEFT-gamemode; In theft a safe will randomly appear onto gamefield,
and will stay there until it's destroyed or players enter the shop.
When safe is destroyed, it reveals a gold bag which can be carried onto
players' starting platform, where it will be taken and player gains
100 more credits. As with flag, you can't shoot while carrying the
bag but you can drop it.
  - No ESC-quitting from shop anymore. It was complained to be unfair as
one player might quit as he'd (or she'd) please. Now all players must
press their change-key on "begin new game/quit"-icon to quit the game.
  - New musics. The main menu music was changed to better one, and highscores
now have their own music. You can also listen the musics with included
    JBOX program.

Operating System problems:
  - Windows 3.xx:
We have not experienced any problems running Men In War under Windows,
but we strongly recommend that you DO NOT run Men In War under Windows.
  - Windows 95:
We have not experienced any problems running Men In War under Windows 95:
  - OS/2:
Men In War runs perfectly under OS/2, with no problems whatsoever.
  - DOS:
We really recommend that you run Men In War in DOS only. DOS is the most
problem-free operating system you may possibly use.
  - Others:
We have not been able to test Men In War under any other operating
systems, and we would like to hear how it runs under such systems.

Sound Device problems:
  - Gravis Ultrasound (GUS):
Men In War runs perfectly with GUS with only 256k of memory. We don't
expect you to have any problems with it.
  - Gravis Plug'n'Play (PnP):
Men In War has tested with PnP under DOS, and it runs with no problems.
Though, the ULTRASND-environment variable must be set to use PnP.
  - Sound Blasters:
Men In War should run perfectly with any Sound Blaster, as long you have
the BLASTER-environment variable set with correct values.
  - SB-compatible devices:
We have not tested Men In War with sound boards that call themselves as
Sound Blaster compatible, so we would like to hear how it runs with
    them.

Ä´ INTRODUCTION ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

"The year was 1999. Everything was just fine. The Russia was developing
towards democracy. There were no wars. Situation couldn't be better.
But then, 21. July 1999, a new land was formed in middle-east. And
everything went crazy. Old Communists in Russia gained access to nuclear
weapons, and gave them to the leader of this new country. He fired them
at USA. And Third World War began. This time doomsday was 10. 10. 1999.

The war lasted 4 years. Most countries were destroyed during this war.
Thought, there were countries that survived with minor losses - for
example South Africa, and nordic lands, Finland and Sweden.

No bad without something good too - there were no population problems
any more - during war, two thirds of world population ceased to exist.

But that will not help the lasting third. Huge areas of land has become
radioactive. Many people have become mutants. There is no longer old
democratic governments. Anarchy was everywhere. And - because most
people couldn't work any more - most people have become bandits.

Mafia bosses have become unbeliable rich. They kept whole cities under
their iron fist. But people are too dizzy about the war to stand against
their power. And they arrange great gladiator fights to keep people
  quiet.

When the war began, I was 21 years old. I just had completed my military
service in Finnish army. My life was just about to begin. But the war
began. Me and my girlfriend became mercenaries. Soon we were rich. But on
one mission she got killed. The killer died slowly and painfully, I can
guarantee that. But my job as mercenary ended then. I could not fight
  anymore.

When the war ended, I was 25. I was rich, but I felt like my life was in
end. My loved one was died. I had no reason to live.

But then, one of the Mafia Bosses asked to meet me. He must have felt
some kind of respect towards me, because he came to meet me - usually
they ask someone to come to meet them. But not this time.

He asked me to fight as a gladiator. I declined. He demanded me to fight
as gladiator. I declined again. Then he said that I'd be dead if not.
This time I accepted. Though, I could have accepted the death, but I
felt like I could seek some revenge to the death of my loved one throught
  the gladiator fights.

Now - 15 years later - I'm the most famous gladiator that has existed.
I have killed more men than you can count. I'm so famous that the Boss
that wanted me to fight has asked me to work as his bodyguard. I was
tired to fight on the arena so I accepted the offer. Now, I work as his
  bodyguard and teach new gladiators.

I tell you - becoming a gladiator is an great step. You rookies can still
change your mind. If you continue now, there is no turning back. Think
hard. If you continue, you can become famous. Or you may as well die in
the first match against some older gladiator.

  The choice is yours."

Three of our group of twelve rejected when they heard about the cloning.
The cloning would be painless. But, because the brain structure of human,
clones can't be made perfect. They're brainless idiots. Because of this
clones are equipped with "remote-brains", an device, that does everything
normal brains do, but instead of handling information it sends or
receives data from remote control - the real gladiator. Because of this,
gladiator has feeling that he or she really IS on the stage, instead that
little chamber he or she really is in. And, if gladiator is shot, he/she
  really feels the pain.

  Death.
Some gladiators just can't handle feeling of dying. They just collapse.
They fall in coma - usually for weeks. Some gladiators won't revive. If
this happens, they're rejected. Most of gladiators can handle the death.
They just feel uncomfortable for a moment, and when new close awakens in
stage, they gain control almost immededialy.

Hour ago, I had my first clone-control experience. It's strange. You just
fall asleep, and awaken in minutes. Then, in first time, you're taken to
the arena. You are given no weapons. The hunt began. I died. I survived
the experience. I am allowed to fight for now on.

Ä´ NOTICES ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

If you can't tolerate blood and/or violence in any form, we highly suggest
that you erase this game now, if not sooner. Also, if you think that
computer violence and evil marks can make you an satanist or anything like
that, you should not play this game.

We, the Imagination team, will take NO RESPONSIBILITY about anything this
program, or use of this program, can directly or indirectly do to your
computer, mentalitat or anything. This warning contains all ways to use
this program, and covers all software that you have or may sometime have
in your hard disk, as well as any mental - or any other kind - damage
 this program may do.

You should considers yourself now as warned.

Ä´ DISTRIBUTION ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

This game is meant to be distributed as shareware. If you enjoy playing
this game, and/or would like to use full weapon arsenal of this game,
you must register. For information about registration, please see the end
 of this document.

Ä´ COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

 MenInWar shortly requires:
   -A 386 or better computer
-About 520 kilobytes of main memory
-About 512 kilobytes of XMS memory
-About 640 kilobytes of EMS memory for SoundBlaster sounds

MenInWar required a minimum of 386SX. I don't have tested this in slower
computers, but I can tell you, that stages with cannons are surely
unplayable in slower computers (this has been made in 486dlc/40), and the
three player games are pretty tough to play, ecspecially when there is
lots of ammos in air, like Autoplasma.
For maximum playing experience I really recommend a fast 486 with fast VGA
card with Gravis UltraSound. If you haven't played this game with GUS,
 you've missed a great experience.

 About memory managers:
With GUS: MenInWar should run OK under any EMM driver, as long as you have
at least 512 kilobytes of free XMS memory.
With SB: MenInWar has designed to use GUS for audio, so main memory was
pretty used-up when SB-support was added. So, first versions had
poor SoundBlaster support which couldn't handle EMM. Now, this
version of MenInWar REQUIRES EMM. I don't this this is a setback
because most newer operating systems allow EMM access to DOS
           tasks.

Ä´ QUICKSTART ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

Because you have already tried MenInWar (you have, don't you?) I really
should skip this part. But there always is people who read docs before
starting to play (I've never understood such people), I now explain
shortly what you have to do to start smashing your (ex)friends.

 Type (at DOS prompt):
       SETUP (and hit enter ofcourse)
And select your sound device. I myself really recommend Gravis UltraSound.

Please note, that setup allows you to change blood level of game too. If
you don't like blood so much, answer "only little" and most of the blood
 will be stripped from game.

When you've exited setup, type (at DOS prompt)
       MW (and hit enter)
 And have fun.
But please read this document. Not now, but read it. Sooner or later.

Ä´ STARTUP PARAMETERS ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

There is no many parameters in MenInWar. But you might to like to know
 them, just in case.

-Mxxx Force to use module xxx as game music. Please note, that only
formats supported are normal Amiga 31 instrument protracker
              module, with 4, 6 or 8 channels, and ScreamTracker 3.xx's S3M
type modules with maximum of 8 channels.
-S Slow the game down a bit. In faster computers MenInWar can be
unplayable in normal speed, and S-parameters slow it down to
              half the normal speed.

Ä´ CONTROL ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

In beginning, arrow keys are most usable keys to control selection arrow
in main menu. If you want to see what keys are in use, move cursor to
"setup" and press grey "+" key. In that menu you can also change all keys,
and select between different game- and seeking modes by aiming cursor over
desired direction and pressing fire key. And - ofcourse - you have also to
press the desired key after text has appeared.
Any keys can be used, but there are some keys that are not suggested. They
are: ESC (it'll just quit game)
       F1 (pause mode)
F2 (pause mode, ends when this key is released)
       F4 (volumes)

Ä´ SETUP ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

In setup screen there is couple other choices as well.

MODE: NORMAL - MISSION - NONSTOP - THEFT
In NORMAL mode players are thrown in shop when all players have died
or only one is left. In NONSTOP mode fight will not stop before ESC
is pressed, or one of players have 5 kills (definable) on his/her
account. These kills are shown as the first number in kills. This
mode is something really fun when used together with ARGH!-mode and
three players. The MISSION mode adds a new item in map(if specified):
The Flagpole. Flagpolecontains a flag, that can be taken and carried
to one of player's own start positions. If player stands on start
platform with map, (s)he gains money. But, in this mode (if ARGH! is
on), your own cannons shoot you if you are carrying the flag, so you
have to be much more careful in game. Carrying the flag is also very
hard because it's weight, so players can not shoot while carrying the
      flag.
The last mode is THEFT. In theft mode, an safe approaches during
match onto gamefield. The safe contains a bag, with some credits in
it. To get the bag, players must destroy the safe and carry the gold
onto their own (or general) platforms. Though, the transfer takes
a while and player must stand still on the platform during the
transfer event. Also, the bag of gold is heavy, and players can not
      shoot while having it.

CANNONS: ARMORED - NONE - NORMAL - WEAK
If cannons are set to ARMORED, their plating is done with so-called
BFG-steel, that is very strong and tough and expensive and heavy.
But, because some people complain that BFG-steel makes levels almost
impossible, gladiators are free to choice if they want to have plated
cannons in field, or if they want cannons to be removed (NONE). In
NORMAL mode, of course, cannons exist and are vulnerable. When WEAK
is selected, normal plating is replaced with rather weak iron. In
WEAK mode cannons have approximately a third of normal toughness.

   ROCKETS: SEEKING - DUMB-FIRE
This controls if rockets have seeking mechanism in game. DUMBFIRE
rockets will go just straight, but SEEKING rockets may and will aim
for nearest opponent. SEEKING option has no effect is ShareWare
      version of game.

DIFFICULTY: EASY - NORMAL - ARGH
In EASY mode cannons only shoot bullets. In NORMAL mode cannons have
all the weapons in use, except plasmashotguns and rockets. ARGH-mode
also gives cannons the rockets, and allows them to shoot at flag-
carrier little caring who it is. Thought, this setting has no effect
in game if you play a level with no cannons.

   RANDOM BARRELS: YES - NO
If this is specified, barrels will appear randomly during gameplay at
the stage. This can increase the action in levels. Thought, if you
think that barrels are just waste of time, you can disable this from
happening and just destroy barrels on level.

Ä´ STATUS BAR ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

During game you will always see the status bar in lowest part of screen.
This screen contains all information about men, and looks a bit like this:
        ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
        ³ BULL o 135 ÀÙ RIF o ú PLA ÀÙ ÍÍÍÍÍ ³
        ³ ROCK ú 005 ROC þ ú PSG O 025 ³
        ³ CELL ú 015 Ú¿ UZI ú þ APL Ú¿ Äû ³
        ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ
In farest left you will see ammunition count, and active ammunition. The
active ammunition marks the ammunition gun uses.
If middle, you will see your weapons: RIFle, ROCket launcher, UZI, PLAsma
rifle, PlasmaShotGun and AutoPLasma. If you don't have gun, the dot next
to it is very dark. If you have it, but it doesn't be active, dot is
purple. If the gun is active, the dot will be almost white.
In farthest right is man's health, money and pulse (or frags). The health
is shown with grey bar; shorter the bar is, less health man has. The money
is given in coins. The pulse has no significant meaning, so you can just
ingore it. In non-stop mode the pulse is replaced with frag count - if you
kill an enemy, you gain a frag. But, if you kill yourself (with a rocket
or just stupidly standing on altar) you get negative frags.

Ä´ SHOP ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

When you "start game", you are thrown into shop. In shop you buy more ammos
and new weapons, and control map and player count. From shop the ESC is
only way to return to main menu, but setup can be changed from shop.
Maybe little more explanation about icons is in order.

   "Next battle/Quit" Cost: none Icon:
This icon starts the main game. To enter match, all players have to
move their cursors over this icon and press their fire keys. Once
you've pressed fire here, you can still buy and sell anything, but
other players can enter game by pressing their fire's here.
Also, quitting the game is also done with this icon. To quit the
game, all players must press their CHANGE key on this icon.

   "Shield" Cost: 80 Icon:
Shield makes you almost invulnerable for a time. It's great when
you want to be tough and use rockets to kill your enemies at close
range. This icon can be aquired from game as well, but shield you
aquired from game will last a lot shorter time.

   "Setup" Cost: nothing Icon:
This item enters in the same setup screen as the selection fo Setup
from main menu does. For more details, see section SETUP.

   "Players" Cost: nothing Icon:
If you want to change player count (2 or 3), one player must move
his/her cursor here and press fire key once.

   "Map" Cost: nothing Icon:
Map can be changed by moving cursor here and pressing UP or DOWN
keys. The small map, as the name, will give you some information
when you learn to read it. By pressing fire key on here, map will
       be picked on random.

   "Bullets" Cost: 18/32pcs Icon:
Bullets are basic ammunition, and are used by Rifle and Uzi.

   "Cells" Cost: 30/16pcs Icon:
Energy Cells are an small glass tubes with small amount of Elerium
in them. Elerium is very unstable, and should be handled with great
care. If these glass tubes are broken, Elerium detonates immedialy,
killing everyone in nearest 10 meters. Plasma-based weapons can use
Elerium as ammunition, by using magnetic fields as accelerator to
shoot Elerium from weapon at high speed. When such energy hits an
target, it explodes with a quite powerful explosion.

   "Rocket" Cost: 60/3pcs Icon:
"Rocket" may not be the right word to describe these high-explosive
missiles with intelligent guidance system. When fired, the rocket
launcher locks a target, which rockets then try to follow.
Unfortunately they're pretty dum, and their seeking mechanism has
some serious problems avoiding wall. But, when seeking mechanism
success, rocket may do an 90 degree turn and hit behind corners.

   "Tank" Cost: 250 Icon:
Tanks have tough armor, heavy firepower, and are fast. Thought,
they turn very slowly and can be easyly outmanouvered. But, beware
if your opponent has tank: he/she may kill you just driving over
you! Just if you drive over your opponent, you will gain no money
nor kills. Tanks also give you extra armor, because they will
protect you until destroyed. When you notice your tank is about to
be destroyed, you must press Change-key to exit tank. Run fast to
       escape the explosion of tank...

   "Rocket launcher" Cost: 200 Icon:
Rocket launchers are used to launch rockets. But, as all weapons,
they can break. Usually, they become unstable after 20 lauches,
and break down after 30 launches.

   "Uzi" Cost: 220 Icon:
Uzi is an deadly implement of rifle. With capacity of shooting long
bursts of bullets, they can really nail an opponent on wall. As all
weapons, they become unstable somewhere after 200 shots, and break
       down shortly after 300 shots.

   "Plasma rifle" Cost: 300 Icon:
Plasma rifles are first experiments with Energy Cells. As all first
experiments, they have lots of poor features - they're slow, and
break down after 100 shots. Thought, they're very powerful.

   "Plasma Shotgun" Cost: 400 Icon:
Plasma Shotgun is a new weapon from PlasmaTech, which is replacing
the unsatisfying "Zimm"- design. With capacity of shooting 9 high-
energy plasma shots at once, it has almost instantly been taken to
every gladiators' wishlist. But, power has it's price, this case in
long deheating time after each shot and short lifetime of weapon,
only about hundred shots before unstability and twice of that
before the final breakdown. Also, it consumes nine plasma cells per
       shot.

   "Auto Plasma" Cost: 400 Icon:
Auto Plasma is an deadly implement to Plasma Rifle. It is capable
to fire bursts of plasma shots, that, thought, are less powerful
than shots from Plasma Rifle. It's lifetime is also quite short.

And, althought not shown in shop menu,
    "Rifle" Cost: free Icon: none
Rifles are really basic weapons. They are slow to fire, but are
highly accurate. They are weapons of real assassins.

Ä´ GAMEPLAY ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

When players have exited shop to game, the main screen shows up. All
players begin from pre-set locations, but their facing can be at any
direction. Now it's time to press those keys to move men. It can be a bit
difficult at beginning, but you will get used to it very quickly.

Sometimes items approach at gamefield. But, they will vanish very quickly
if not picked up, so hurry up if you want to have them. These items are:

     Health bonus
This will boost up your health a bit.

     Golden coin
         This gives you 50 credits.

     Silver coin
         This gives you 30 credits.

     Ammo clip
When picked up, you gain 32 bullets.

     Rocket
This gives you just one rocket.

     Energy Cell
This gives you 16 more cells.

     Rocket launcher
Rocket launchers are pretty effective agains enemies. Picking
up rocket launcher gives you also 2 rockets.

     Uzi
Uzis can shoot very rapidly. You also get 16 bullets.

     Plasma Gun
Plasma guns are just averange as weapons. When you get plasma gun
you also get 6 energy cells.

     Plasma Shotgun
Plasma shotguns are powerful spread-firing plasma weapons, which
comes with enough plasma for two shots.

     Auto Plasma
Very deadly weapon, capable to very rapid fire. When picked up,
         you gain also 12 cells.

     Shield
This neat little device makes you almost invulnerable for a
moment, but beware; you still can get hits - a bit!

     Safes:
Safes appear randomly onto stages and contain a bag of gold. To
get the bag player has to blow the safe to pieces first. When
player actually gets the bag, he or she must concentrace all his
or hers strength onto carrying the bag and can't shoot. Bag can
be dropped, but anyone can take it if you leave it.
Gold is slow to transfer with teleport, and so players must wait
on their platforms a long time before gold is taken.

 And some map icons:
     Blue, Red and Green Platform
These are the beginning locations of players. The game always
begins from these spots, only facing changes.

     The Altar:
No one exactly knows what these six-edged stars are, where they
come from or how they remain operational. But, many gladiators
have claimed, that they have gained health with a short visit on
         altars.

     The Flagpole:
If map contains an flagpole and Mission-gamemode has selected,
a flag is also added onto map. Any player can take the flag and
take it to any of their platforms to gain some money. A flag can
be dropped by "changing" weapon and you will still gain money if
flag is on the platform, but remember: any player can grab the
flag just by walking over it!

     Cannons:
In some levels, there are cannons to bother you more. Each man
has an radio device, that tells cannons not to shoot him. But if
a man without correct device tries to approach cannon, fire is
opened at him. Thought, fired bullets have no seeking ability,
and may hit anyone - including "their own man".

     The Energy Doors:
Some levels also contain these 'doors' that usually are made of
pure energy in form that doesn't harm anything. But, because
these fields eat a pretty great amounts of energy, they must be
re-loaded sometimes, and in this time they're open.

     Windows:
These 'windows' are actually a sort of energy fields - powerful
enough to keep man from walking, but not enough to stop ammos.

     Warps:
Also, some levels have "warp pools" that have ability to transfer
players in other side of map. Thought, the destinations of warps
are very presetted, making some traps, as well as some really
useful exit routes from tight situations. At all levels there is
also an "warp generator" that creates randomly warp wells, that
throws players randomly in map if stepped in.

A bit more about weapons picked from gamefield: Usually weapons picked
are in pretty good shape, but they might as well break down after couple
shots, so it's much more safer yo buy weapons from shop.

Also, when you stupidly die on the altar the remaining blood of player
forms a mindless zombie that wanders around. Zombies are mostly harmless,
but they have bad habit to eat anything that crosses their path -
including weapons and items. Though, they do not attack players.
Also, there is a slight possibility that zombie is formed also when
someone is killed during normal battle - with no altar anywhere to seen.

Now it's up to you to kill you (soon ex-) friends with most efficiently
way using this information on your advantage.

Ä´ TROUBLESHOOTING AND QUESTIONS ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

Q: The screen went black and nothing happens anymore, except the music
    still plays. What happened???
A: You ran out of memory. Men In War has grown like a sponge, and now it
requires approximately 548000 bytes (534 kilobytes) of base memory,
and about 512 kilobytes of XMS memory. If you're using Sound Blaster,
additional 640 kilobytes of EMS is required as well.
If you have problems with memory, try to create a boot disk. There
is no instructions with MW, so consult someone who knows how to make
    one if you don't know.

Q: When I load the game, I can't hear any music during intro, and
keys won't work in main menu! That text still goes round...
A: That's due the corrupt configuration file. First, you may escape the
game by pressing CTRL-ESC in main menu. Then Delete the 'GAME.CFG'
file and everything should be ok then - thought you must re-set keys
    if you have changed them.

Q: Is there any cheat modes or something like that?
A: Well, no exactly. But Debug Mode gives all players lots of stuff. But
I won't tell you how to enter debug mode.

Q: When I press Control-key, my "friend's" player does something too!
A: Check that your "friend" doesn't use anyther Control-key in his keys -
MenInWar won't do difference between Control-keys (btw, that same goes
for other keys as well, like ALTs (yup, they're "same" now).

Q: Why are some setting in Setup red and I can't select them?
A: They're for registered version users only.

Q: Can I play MW under Windows?
A: No. It handles it's needs quite weird way and thus won't work under
Windows. But why you're even trying to? DOS is much better, trust me.

Q: This game runs slower in my Pentium than in my friend's 386!
A: There is two (2) explanations: 1) Your pentium has slower video card.
Get a faster one. 2) You're using SoundBlaster sounds while your
friend has GUS. While with SoundBlaster you have to mix all sounds
with processor, MW has just to tell GUS what it should play. And,
because of this, SoundBlaster sounds can and will slow down game speed
a lot --- but not so much in faster computers anyway.

 Q: Sounds are terrible!
 A: 1) Get a GUS.
    2) Throw a duck with your inch-sized "speakers" and use good pair of
speakers (for example, connect your sound card to stereo set, and
place speakers in both sides of monitor)
    3) (If you're still using lousy SB) Raise sound quality. It improves
sound quality a bit, but eats processortime.

Q: Where that altar comes from?
 A: No one knows.

Q: Are you an satanist (that altar and stuff...)
A: I'm not. I don't think there's such "creature" anywhere, in Hell or
in Heaven. As you might have guessed, I don't believe in God either.

Q: Hey, where did ZIMM go?
A: ZIMM was discarded as unused and useless weapon. I hope you find the
plasma shotgun more useful and entertaining.

Ä´ JUKEBOX ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ

In version 1.5, a Jukebox program was added, if you would like to listen
game's musics while not playing. The jukebox is quite simple; you may
select game musics from keys 1 to 5 or the arrow keys, and pressing 6
allows you to load one of your own modules. Though, you can listen only
modules with up to 6 channels with Sound Blaster or up to 14 channels
with GUS. Also, only MOD and S3M files are supported.
