Joulu ilman Amigaa?

PCI-Data lopettaa Commodoren maahantuonnin!

Kohta vuosikymmenen Commodore-tuotteiden virallisena maahantuojana toiminut Oy PCI-Data Ab lyö hanskat naulaan. Commodore on myynyt PCI:lle tuotteitaan samaan hintaan kuin Ruotsin ja Saksan tukkukauppiaille. Näin PCI:n jälleenmyyntihinnat ovat nousseet harmaatuojien vastaavia korkeammiksi. Tuotetuki ja -huolto ovat jääneet PCI:n kontolle, mutta päämies ei ole huomioinut tätä hinnoittelussaan. Johtopäätös näistä taloudellisista tosiasioista on se, että PCI:n ei kannata tuoda Commodore-tuotteita maahan.

PCI:n toimitusjohtaja Grels Westman kertoo, että varastossa olevat koneet toimitetaan myyntiin, mutta uusia mikroja ei ole tulossa. Commodoren on otettava vastuu huollosta. Ehkä Suomeen perustetaan tytäryhtiö Commodore Finland pohjoismaiseen malliin. Tälläisen yrityksen mahdollisuudet hoitaa esimerkiksi tulevat joulumarkkinat jäävät arvailujen varaan.

Westman kertoo päämiehensä olevan vähemmän kiinnostunut keskustelemaan asiakkaiden asemasta uudessa tilanteessa. Ainoaksi vaihtoehdoksi on jäänyt Commodoren toimitusjohtajan Medi Alin puhelinnumeron (990-1-212 935 3840) ja faxinumeron (990-1-212 935 3847) antaminen asiakkaille. PCI:n asema ei ole ainutlaatuinen, sillä aiemmin keväällä Kreikan maahantuoja joutui sanomaan sopimuksensa irti samanlaisista syistä.

Suomen mikroilmastossa PCI on merkinnyt samaa kuin Commodore 64 ja Amiga. Miten käy jatkossa? Harmaatuojat iloitsevat varmasti markkinakakun uusjaosta, mutta kuinka hoituu esimerkiksi tuotetuki? Amigan asema kokee joka tapauksessa kolauksen, jota Atari ST:n ja PC-mikrojen markkinoijat osannevat käyttää hyväkseen.

Atari ST:n maahantuojan X-Computerin toimitusjohtaja Ilkka Innamaa lupaa ST:n ja muiden Atari-tuotteiden riittävän joulumarkkinoilla. Tilanteeseen on osattu varautua jo parin viikon ajan. Atari Skandinavia on asettanut Suomen markkinat ykköstilalle laitteiden saatavuuden suhteen. ST-mikroja kaupataan pitkin vanhoja kanavia, joista merkittävimmät ovat INFO ja Musta Pörssi. Innamaa näkee tämän hetkisessä tilanteessa yhtymäkohtia Ruotsin vastaavaan kolmisen vuotta sitten. Silloin alakynnessä ollut ST on Innamaan mukaan noussut markkinajohtajaksi Amigaan nähden suhteessa 70/30.

PCI-Data quits importing Commodore!

PCI-Data Ab has been acting as the official importer of Commodore products for almost a decade, but it has now decided to throw in the towel. Commodore has sold its products to PCI for the same price as it has sold them to wholesalers in Sweden and Germany. This has caused PCI’s prices to rise above those of unofficial importers. Product support and service have been PCI’s responsibility, but the principal hasn’t taken this into consideration in its pricing. The result is that it is not worth it for PCI to import Commodore products.

PCI’s Managing Director Grels Westman says that the products that they have in store will be sold, but they won’t have any new coming in. Commodore must take responsibility for the product support and service. Maybe there will be a Commodore Finland subsidiary in the same way as they’ve done in other Nordic countries. The potential for this kind of company to handle the Christmas rush remains to be seen.

Westman tells that his principal is less interested in discussing the status of the customers in the new situation. The only option has been to give Commodore’s Managing Director Medi Ali’s phone number (990-1-212 935 3840) and fax (990-1-212 935 3847) to all the customers. PCI’s situation isn’t unique because earlier this spring, Greece’s official importer had to cancel their contract for similar reasons.

In Finland’s the computer atmosphere PCI has meant the same as Commodore 64 and Amiga. What will happen in the future? The unofficial importers are probably very happy about the new share on the market, but how will they deal with product support and service? Amiga will for sure experience a blow, which the importers of Atari ST and PC Micros will for sure take advantage of.

The Managing Director of Atari ST’s importer, X-Computer, Ilkka Innamaa promises ST and other Atari products to be enough to fulfill the Christmas demand. They have been getting ready for the new situation for a few weeks now. Atari Scandinavia has placed the Finnish market in the first place in terms of product availability. Atari ST computers will be sold through the old channels, out of which the most important are INFO and Musta Pörssi. Innamaa sees that the current situation is similar to what they experienced in Sweden three years ago when ST was outnumbered by Amiga, but has now risen to dominate the market share at 70/30 ratio.
